I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married…

Just a few reasons why you should vote for Barack Obama in 2012.

“As people of faith, affirming the Christian teaching that before God all people are equal, we will no longer participate in this discrimination,” the church’s statement says.

The vote was unanimous and brought tears to the eyes of some of the 100 or so members who stood to vote in favor of the “statement on marriage ceremonies.”

Article from HuffPost Gay Voices:

Kevin Keller, Gay Archie Character, Gets Married In January Issue

The highly-anticipated gay wedding issue of Archie Comics has finally been revealed.

The January issue’s cover illustration shows Kevin Keller, Riverdale’s first openly gay character who is also an active U.S. military officer, tying the knot with his African-American partner, Clay Walker. ComicsAlliance reported in October that the story of the couple’s meeting, said to take place in a military hospital, “obviously deals with [‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’] but it doesn’t spell it out for the reader,” and may be revealed in flashback, according to Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater.

When the miniseries was announced in 2010, author Dan Parent told the Associated Press, “The world of Riverdale has to reflect contemporary culture and to show it is an accepting, diverse place. And that’s why Kevin is important, to show that everybody is welcome in this all-American town we’ve embraced for over 70 years.” Parent was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for creating the character.

Not surprisingly, the introduction of the fictional character, in addition to his marriage, has drawn both strong praise and harsh criticism. “I think it’s great that the reality of America’s loving couples are being portrayed in as many places as possible,” Evan Wolfson, the founder and president of Freedom to Marry, told Fox News.“We all want to be part of family and community –- that’s what marriage is about.” On the other hand, the Family Research Council’s Peter Spriggs noted, “It’s unfortunate that a comic book series usually seen as depicting innocent, all-American life is now being used to advance the sexual revolution.”

As easily can be understood by the article, Family Research Council seems to be completely unaware of what “family” really means. What is unfortunate is Family Research Council’s comments and criticism.

I LOVE ARCHIE COMICS!!!!! Literally used to read them all the time. Gotta make sure I buy this one when it comes out.

|Spirit Day | October 20, 2011 |

Last year, on October 20, 2010, more than 2 million people around the world wore purple, including celebrities like Ellen Degeneres, Cyndi Lauper, Perez Hilton and the cast of Glee (for more supporters click here). Spirit Day participants banded together to remember teens (such as Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase and Billy Lucas) who commit suicide after being bullied because of their sexual orientation. We made a huge impact last year, and we’re making progress, but unfortunately it’s not good enough.

Last Sunday, Jamey Rodemeyer, from Buffalo, N.Y., commit suicide. He was only 14. The sad truth is that these sorts of things happen every day. Teens are bullied in their homes, schools and workplaces based on their sexuality and they end up cutting their lives short.

So this year, we’re going to do it again. Wear purple on Thursday, October 20th, 2011. Stand up to homophobic bullying. Support your LGBTQ friends, family members and co-workers. And mourn the lives lost in our battle for equality.

Reblog. Trend #SpiritDay. Attend the Facebook event. Tell everyone.

What has Obama done for LGBT Americans?

There’s still a LOT of stuff left to do, but damn we did get a lot of stuff done.

This is an example of why I get so frustrated with LGBTQ people who decided to vote Republican during the midterm election for the sole reason of President Obama not passing marriage equality nationwide. They ignored all the stuff he has done, all the progress he could still make, and decided to “teach him a lesson” by voting against him.

Think before you vote people. Come on now.

Meet Derence Kernek and Ed Watson, a California couple who have been together for 40 years. They want the 9th Circuit federal court to lift the stay against same-sex marriage is California so they can get hitched. Why? Ed, who is 78 years old, has Alzheimer’s disease and wants to get married before he can’t recognize his partner of 40 years anymore.

You can’t stop homosexuality…sure you can disagree on it…but at the end of the day…it’s pointless. That’s like someone coming up to me and telling me,”Hey. You’re black. And I want you to be white like me…so I’m going to make sure you don’t get to have any rights.” What kind of logic is that?
